  C.WALTON MUSSER
was researching the principle of the original harmonic drive
The first set of harmonic drive in the world was assembled here

The first set of harmonic drive in the world was build here   Harmonic drive was applied in aerospace at first   Harmonic drive was applied in rocket at first

1955 The first set of Harmonic Drive is derived, was patented in 1955,by its inventor, C.Walton Musser. The original patent-holder, an American company, (United Shoe Machinery Corp.) Initially this new product was applied in aerospace technology and other highly specific applications.

1967 In 1967 a license agreement was signed between the American patent-holder and a Japanese company, which later traded under the name of Harmonic Drive Systems Inc.

1976 Developing the pancake-type gear sets HDUR series.

1982 Developing the highly dynamic Servo Actuators available with AC and DC technology and integrated Harmonic Drive precision gearboxes.

1988 To increase the gear life, the torsional stiffness and the torque capacity, developing a new tooth profile, patented as "IH type gearing".

1990 Developing the high stiffness cross roller bearing. The integration of this high capacity bearing to support output loads will in many applications eliminate the need for the user to design an external output bearing assembly, thus reducing design and production costs.

1992 Developing The New HFUC Series features a shortened Flexspline, which results in an important reduction of the axial length and reduction of weight, the more important, the high torque capacity and high stiffness could be increased.

1996 Developing The Hollow Shaft Units and Component Sets Series HFUS. This type of gear offers a compact design with an integrated cross roller output bearing and a large hollow shaft through the gear.

1997 Developing The Harmonic Drive AC Hollow Shaft Servo System Series FHA.
